In case you haven’t heard, Mavericks has been going completely berserk to begin the 12 months. The famed Northern California big-wave spot has seen a two-week run of big surf that has captured the eye of the complete surf world.
January 10 was undoubtedly the largest (and scariest) day on this miraculous two-week span. With the world’s greatest big-wave surfers charging the XXL waves––each paddling and tow-in––there is no such thing as a scarcity of jaw-dropping footage from that day. Nevertheless, there was one experience that was in contrast to the remainder.
Chuck Patterson ditched his surfboard for a pair of skis and ski poles. After getting towed into an XXL wave, Patterson managed to each outrun the saltwater avalanche and carve a buttery flip within the course of.
